Hi Jane,
Yes, there is a very good chance DCI and vitex will help you. They work very well together. DCI addresses the cause of the insulin resistance (which in turn causes the hormonal abnormalities that eventually result in polycystic ovaries) and the vitex gives your body an extra push to realign your hormones and get everything working in a rhythm again.
Good luck!

PCOS

Last year I was diagnosed with pcos after an ultra sound scan.
I have been trying to get pregnant for nearly a year but its not happening.
Am trying for my 3rd child and didn't struggle conceiving my other 2 who are 7 and 3 years of age.
I have been taking vitex for the last 3 weeks and am hoping it'll regulate my chcle.
Also wanted to say am 40 years old. I suffer from
Lower abdominal pains caused by an enlarged ovaries, very bad PMS, mood swings, weight increase, low energy. Do you think a combination of vitex and DCI would help?

Hi Lina,

You are most welcome. In my opinion Fertilaid is just a fairly basic prenatal multivitamin. It has some useful herbs in it, but not in concentrations that would be able to cause any significant benefit. There are better and cheaper multivitamins and prenatal vitamins available and if you have PCOS, I believe that a more appropriate course of action would be to address that specifically, rather than taking a generic 'fertility' supplement.

A study published last year recommended that d-chiro inositol and myo-inositol be the first line of treatment for women with PCOS due to it's excellent track record in improving the biochemical markers of the syndrome, reducing symptoms and improving fertility outcomes. You might also look in N-Acetyl Cysteine as it has similarly been found in studies to be "as effective as metformin" in treating PCOS.

Vitamin D deficiency occurs in around 80% of women with PCOS, so restoring your levels back to within the optimal range is an excellent first step. Please ensure that you have your vitamin D levels checked regularly so that your vitamin D dose can be titrated accordingly. Some women need only 1,000 IU per day to regain a normal vitamin D status, others as much as 10,000 IU per day.

If you have any more questions or would like copies of the studies on DCI and PCOS to read yourself or to discuss with your doctor just let me know.

Kind regards,

Anne

Dear Uma,

The DCI powder is supplied with a custom scoop which measures 100 mg of DCI. This makes it much easier and more accurate to get the right dosage compared to capsules. Unless otherwise requested orders are sent via standard AirMail which is untrackable. Orders can be sent by registered post for around $20 (as opposed to $2.40 for up to 36 grams or $4.90 for up to 108 grams). If you are able to afford a larger order (108 grams or 216 grams) and registered post, this is preferable. Either method of postage will arrive in 1-2 weeks on average. Express post is available for around $50 to arrive within 2-3 days (with tracking).

The DCI is manufactured in South Korea by a reputable nutraceutical manufacturing company in a FDA cGMP facility. It is made from an extract of carob pods.

I'm happy to answer any questions you have Uma. Your daughter's health is important and you should not apologise for being conscientious. If you would like copies of the scientific studies into DCI and PCOS, please let me know. I would be more than happy to email them to you.

Kind regards,

Anne

Hi Najah,

You are most welcome. I agree with you wholeheartedly. The lack of practitioner knowledge regarding PCOS, at both GP and specialist level in my experience, is abysmal. Unfortunately it extends all the way back to diagnosis. For a condition which is estimated to affect between 10 and 25% of the female population, the level of attention the condition gets is seriously inadequate.

DCI is only available online. I am the only Australian supplier as well as being the least expensive world-wide.

If you have insulin sensitivity problems, I think DCI is the best place to start as according to the studies I've read, it addresses the root cause of the problem. I will email the studies to you this morning.

You can find other natural options for treating PCOS and insulin resistance on my Natural Treatments page.

I think some of the best adjunct options are green tea, cinnamon, magnesium and vitamin D. If you are taking DCI, it is worth noting that manganese increases the efficacy of DCI at lowering elevated blood sugar.

IF your primary aim at present is to conceive, you might wish to look into N-Acetyl Cysteine as well. Studies have found NAC "as effective as metformin" in relation to some PCOS markers and improvement in conception rates with NAC is almost as good as with DCI in women with PCOS.

Hi Anne

I really want to thankyou with all my heart for your reply. I'm so happy you answered my question!!! I'd love a copy of the studies!!! I'm desperately trying to find natural ways of controlling my insulin levels and pcos and regulating my cycles and best if all ovulating again. A question that is really bugging me though is that why don't gp's or fertility clinics have this information or knowledge? If it can help women with things like insulin resistance it just seems weird that they don't know this!!!

Another question...is dci only available through online orders? Can it be purchased in Melbourne? ?

Dear Anne,
I have corresponded regarding pcos of my daughter earlier in the day.
How do I administer 1200mg or 600mg from 108Grams packet? Are they available in capsule forms so that one capsule of 600mg could be administered every morning according to her weight. By which Post will u send to India and what is the time duration b4 reaching the destination? May I know how exactly u r making the DCI ? Is it your own home made preparation? Sorry for being so inquisitive.I hope u will understand my anxiety and not get offended.I am very much worried about my daughters health.
Best wishes / Regards

The link between inflammation and PCOS is strong, but not well understood. Women with PCOS have higher levels of inflammation than is normal, as measured by a test called C-reactive Protein. Sometimes this may be related to being overweight, where excess mechanical pressure on the cells of the body from the excess weight causes a kind of mechanical inflammation reaction, similar to if you wear shoes that are too tight, for instance. There is quite likely a lot more to it than that though as even lean-cysters have increased inflammation.

There does appear to be a link between dietary sensitivities such as lactose/gluten intolerance, however, that link has not been well explored, other than that women with PCOS are more likely to suffer from several other conditions, such as endometriosis, gluten intolerance and migraines.

I'm sorry I couldn't answer your question in more detail but there is a lot we are yet to learn about the human body in general and PCOS in particular.

If you have any other questions, please let me know. I'm here to help.

Kind regards,

Anne
